COST CUT AT HOME

I was looking at our latest electricity bill and cannot help but shake my head with resignation. It is after all the time of the year when we have the highest consumption. It is summer time here in our side of the globe and definitely be using more of the air conditioning unit and electric fans. At times, we even use both together.

Gladly, I came across this http://www.microsoft-hohm.com site. They have splendid advices on Energy saving that can very well help consumers in minimizing home energy use.

More often than not, people are not noticing or probably not aware of the wattage of the home appliances in use. In a house with residents not knowledgeable about this, look into the ceiling and you will see light bulbs instead of florescent lights (or fluorescent bulbs even), you see industrial fans instead of ordinary but not timid fans, 110 volts needing transformers appliances probably sent from abroad than locally made but of the same quality…and so on and so forth. They may not be aware that changing can be a big leap to saving cost. There are so many other advices, and the said site also have them PLUS free “personalized energy report” that is more than useful if only you will visit and sign up.

Why use up energy when you can save some? What about those in areas beating up the freezing temperature? I know it's nice to be all modern using heaters, but imagine how much savings you can have with a fire place. And you can still be modern with it! I know of a friend living in Europe and gathering woods before winter. Yes, they also have heaters, but they have specific hours in a day when they make use of the primitive way but truly cost effective. And hey, it looks so nice as well to have one at home. It actually is inviting to be in front of a fire on a winter night as you sip your steaming hot chocolate!
